Like Cara Delevingne, these celebs made career u-turns

There is sometimes a general expectation that you will know what you want to do when you grow up from a young age. For many this is not the case, and that’s totally ok. Cara Delevingne is now said to be changing her career AGAIN and dedicating herself to music.

Over the years many other celebrities have performed similarly dramatic career changes. Here’s a look at five of the most unexpected celebrity career u-turns.

1. Brad Pitt

Brad had all kinds of jobs before he broke into the acting world. He was a limo driver believe it or not, driving drunk people to and from parties. Another job involved dressing up as a giant chicken and standing outside a fast food restaurant called El Pollo Loco in L.A. There really is hope for us all then!

2. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The Olsen twins started acting at just six months old when they starred in TV sitcom Full House. An successful film career followed with appearances in a range of films including Two of a Kind, Billboard Dad and The Challenge. After their own TV show, So Little Time, the twins decided to step into fashion. They are now the founders of luxury label The Row, and are currently being sued by former interns.

3. Victoria Beckham

From pop star to world-renowned designer, Victoria Beckham has shed her old image and taken on an entirely new, Anna Wintour-approved one. But, for  a long time Victoria was so far removed from the fashion world that designers, such as Tom Ford, even requested that she stop wearing their clothes when out in public. Ouch. She was always interested in fashion when she was Posh Spice, wearing one of Alexander McQueen’s first ready-to-wear dresses from his collection for Givenchy in the film Spice World, so it was a natural step for her to transition into fashion. Now a fully-fledged designer with a flagship store on London’s Dover Street, Victoria has left her singing career behind. We’re still hopeful for a Spice Girls reunion though. Please.

4. Gerard Butler

Gerard, known for his roles in films such as 300, didn’t start out working as an actor. Far from it. He studied law at Glasgow University and was apparently, according to The Independent, drunk throughout his entire degree course. After graduating he got a job as a trainee civil lawyer in Edinburgh but was fired just a week before he was about to qualify. Gerard then decided to move to London to find work and he eventually made it as an actor. The rest is history, but it goes to show that even celebrities didn’t know what they wanted to do when they were twenty-somethings.

5. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold has never been one to stick in the same job. The Austrian-born star, 68, started out his working life as a professional body builder. He then moved into acting and became a Hollywood movie star, most famously starring in the Terminator films. He may have gone back to star in the recent Terminator Genisys film alongside Emilia Clarke, but Arnold’s main job now is working as the Governor of California. That’s a pretty impressive CV.
