5 things we’ve learnt about business from Kylie Jenner

Yesterday Kylie Jenner, the youngest in the Kardashian-Jenner clan, launched her much-anticipated lip kits. Now, her millions of fans can finally achieve her infamous pout without surgical enhancement.

We’re taking a look at how this 18-year old has turned beauty powerhouse, and what it has taught us about creating a business.

1. It takes time

The products have been two years in the making. Kylie posted a photo on Instagram with the caption “Wow. Been dreaming of this day for 2 years now. This was a long process but an amazing one!”

The lip kits have taken their time hitting stores, as Kylie has expressed how particular she has been about the branding of the products.

2. You have to be hands-on

In the same post, Kylie explained the process to her fans, telling everyone how she spent time “visiting factories and sitting with the amazing chemists creating the perfect colours and formulas”.

The kit is very much a product of Kylie’s imagination, and she has been involved throughout the entire process.

3. Love your product

The success of these lip kits (they sold out within minutes) is down not just to Kylie’s insanely loyal fan base, but also to her promotion of the product as something she is fully behind. She took to Twitter to tell fans that “This is all me and I put my everything into these lip kits”, showing how much she loves the products.

4. Hype is everything

Kylie has been hyping the products for a while now, but she took to social media days before the launch to begin a countdown, posting sneak peaks of the different styles available.

This got her fans engaged and involved, as she teased swatches of colours and campaign images.

5. Get the right people on board

Following on from the social media posts teasing the kits, Kylie also got her famous family behind, with Kim Kardashian West tweeting about how much she loves the lip kit. Getting the right faces behind a brand is key in the promotion of a product, and Kylie luckily has a whole load of famous siblings she can turn to, as well as relying on her own pulling power!
