5 trick interview questions you need to know about

Got a job interview? Worried about what you are going to be asked? Business Insider has given us some ideas as to what sort of trick questions you need to be prepared for. 

There’s no reason why you should get caught out in an interview. Read these trick questions and you’ll be in the know.

1. Question: Why do you want this job?

A. I want a salary that can match my set of skills

B. I hate my current boss

C. I think I could make a big contribution to the company

What do you answer?

C. This answer shows that you want to be a member of the team and don’t just want the job for your own self-serving purposes. You want to help the company, rather than letting the employer think that the company needs to help you.

2. Question: Why have you spent so long out of work?

Perhaps you have been on a gap year, or travelling for a few months and the employer can see a gap of time on your CV where you weren’t employed.

A. I have been trying to find work but it’s really difficult

B. I needed some ‘me’ time

C. I didn’t want to rush into anything. I wanted to wait for the right job to come along.

What do you answer?

C. Don’t blame the industry for not getting yourself a job sooner, try and give a positive answer instead. Say that the job you are interviewing for is your dream job and the one you were waiting for.

3. Question: If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do?

A. I would quit my job straight away and retire

B. I would like to continue with my job

C. I would buy a new house and maybe a yacht

What do you answer?

B. Even if you would buy a new car and a boat don’t say that to an employer! Answer B shows that you like, and care about, your job.

4. Question: How does this job compare to the others that you have applied for?

A. This job is the best

B. I have options but haven’t made up my mind yet

C. This is the only one I have applied for

What do you answer?

B. It shows that you are honest but also that you are in demand. This answer makes it seem that you have other job offers on the table.

5. Question: Would you ever consider becoming an entrepreneur?

A. No I prefer to work as part of a team

B. Yes that is my end goal

C. I haven’t ever thought about it

What do you answer?

A. You have to say this, even if you don’t believe it, because it shows that you really want the job they are offering.
