3 golden rules for making it as a freelancer

It’s Monday. Are you in need of a job and an income? You’re not alone. Freelancing could be a great option for you because it can involve flexible working hours (so you can still enjoy your freedom) but it can also offer great pay too. Getting into freelance work can be tricky, but help is here.

Here are the three golden rules of freelancing that will make you money AND a career.

1. Know your skill set

Take some time to write down a big list of all your skills. This will give you some helpful reminders of what to include in your CV. You need to know what you have to offer before you start selling yourself to employers.

2. Know your worth

There are some great resources out there if you want to know your rights as a freelancer. Research the rates you should be entitled to and don’t let clients pay you less than the going rate.

3. Don’t work for free

It happens to a lot of people – they get talked into working for free because they are told that it’s a good way to get their foot in the door. This is true for internships and placements but don’t let an employer take advantage of you. Your talent and your time are very valuable. Have a plan in place and only work for free if you really believe it will benefit you in the long run.

Now what?
