Smoothies have been making serious moves since the 1990s. Once a supermarket-exclusive product, the smoothie craze has swept the world and now, in 2016, most people have a blender in their kitchen for smoothie access 24/7.
While they can’t be used to replace food, smoothies are the perfect accompaniment to any part of the day. Morning, noon and night, ingesting one of these organic creations is guaranteed to put a skip back in your step and warrant some questionable dietary choices on Friday nights…
It’s the most important meal of the day but considering how long it takes to get ready for work in the morning, who has time to eat a whole bowl of cereal or wait for toast to sufficiently burn? This banana and oat breakfast smoothie is a delicious and easy way to start the day without having to worry about putting any effort in.
- 1 banana
- 2 Medjool dates
- 2 handfuls of frozen berries (cheaper than fresh berries and are a substitute for ice)
- 1/2 cup of almond milk
- 3 tbsp oats
- 1 tbsp hemp powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 handful of spinach
Having a heavy lunch can really inhibit your ability to work in the afternoons. While you can’t replace all solids in your life with smoothies (for now) accompany your sandwich or salad with this tasty and protein-packed avocado smoothie.
- 1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vanilla yoghurt
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- 3 tablespoons honey
Whether you’ve had a hectic day at the office or looking for a post-workout replenishment, this ginger-pear smoothie will do the trick. The fibre-rich flaxseed will keep the hunger pangs away until dinner time!
- 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yoghurt
- 1 cup pear juice or coconut water
- 1 ripe pear cut into chunks
- 1/2 inch chunk of fresh ginger root or 1/8 tsp dried ground ginger
- 2 handfuls of baby spinach leaves
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
