5 ways to get fit like the Victoria’s Secret Angels

Tonight is the big night for Victoria’s Secret as we see yet another of their blockbuster fashion shows taking place. The line-up has been announced, the music acts booked, and probably a whole lot of fake tan sprayed.

With the pressure of gracing the catwalk for the biggest lingerie brand in the world, who better to turn to than the Angels for some fitness tips? The VS Instagram is awash with personal fitness videos from the Angels, so we’re taking hints from them to inspire a workout revolution in our own lives, even if we don’t have a $2million bra as an incentive…!

1. Ballet

Favoured by many of the Angels, Ballet Beautiful, a hugely popular workout style in America. Ex-Angel Karlie Kloss, Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge all use ballet to keep supple and fit before the show. Having studied dance all her life, Nike ambassador Kloss incorporates ballet into much of her exercise regime. We’re more likely to be seen shaking it in markedly less graceful manner at a Zumba class, but it’s a step in the right direction!

2. Boxing

Angel Lindsay Ellingson favours Muay Thai boxing to keep fit throughout the year. New Angel Gigi Hadid is big into boxing and often posts her work-outs on Instagram, serving up serious motivation for anyone wanting to try it out. Joan Smalls is also a fan of a boxing workout, turning to kick boxing regularly.

3. Pilates

Joan Smalls incorporates pilates into her exercise routine regularly, using reformer pilates. A pilates reformer is a piece of equipment that looks mildly like a weapon of torture, but it’s basically a more intense version of pilates. The machine adds extra resistance to your stretches and so challenges you much more. Meanwhile ex-Angel Jourdan Dunn has previously tried out barre core, which combines ballet, pilates, yoga and cardio. Sounds intense.

4. Weights

As well as ballet, Candice counts weights amongst her favourite workouts, crediting it with keeping her arms lean and strong. Veteran Angel Alessandra Ambrosio also uses weights, putting 5 pound weights on each leg and kicking high to keep her legs toned.

5. Hiking

Behati Prinsloo has previously said that life in California allows for an outdoor workout, and she favours hiking, as well as Pilates, to keep fit throughout the year. Even if you don’t live in the sunshine you can try some outdoor exercise to make a change from the gym, as Behati advises.
