For a 17-year-old makeup artist, working with One Direction and Selena Gomez to name a few, is a pretty major achievement. We met the lovely Lottie Tomlinson, Louis’ sister, to talk about how she broke into the industry and her plans for the future. Will she be the next Zoella?
We caught up backstage at her fragrance shoot for GHOST Girl Crush to talk all things YouTube, brows and working up the career ladder.
1. How did you get into becoming a make-up artist?
Basically, I came out of school and then my brother Louis suggested that I work with One Direction’s hair and makeup stylist Lou Teasdale and get some experience. From there she kept me on. Then I carried on doing that and getting in touch with other make-up artists who were assistants like I am now. I’m just working my way up.
2. What are you plans for the rest of the year?
I want to keep assisting people and learn more about the industry. I want to work my way up and get too carried away with doing this stuff [shoots]. I think I’ll do as much stuff as I can until I can hopefully go off on my own.
3. So you’re becoming a Youtuber as well, have you got any plans to be the next Zoella?
I don’t think I see myself like that but I am going to try to make it as big as I can and enjoy putting videos up. It all started from when I was doing my Instagram videos which weren’t as long as I wanted them to be. So then I just started putting longer ones onto YouTube and I’ll see where it goes.
4. Do you get loads of positive feedback?

A lot of people comment saying they’re going to try it out and that they got some advice from my videos which is really nice.
5. Any make-up tips or recommendations?
I always recommend a great spray-tan with a proper brush because I use that every day. And then just some good mascara, you can’t go wrong. I’m a big fan of the way Kylie Jenner does her make-up but it’s obviously not for everyone. I like to show people a much more natural way of doing it.
6. Who are your celebrity beauty idols?
I take a lot of advice from Karshadian makeup because it’s extreme and iconic. But, like I said, I like to take that and make it a more realistic make-up style for people who want everyday make-up.
7. Our audience is both male and female, so any grooming tips?
For males, my boyfriend really likes eyebrow gel which you can also use on your beard.
8. What can our readers expect to see from you in the next year?
More YouTube videos, more me assisting people and more things like this. Just working my way up and seeing where I am at the end of the year.
9. Can you tell me about what you’re doing here today in regards to the campaign?
We’re just filming the campaign for the GHOST Girl Crush video which is really fun. It’s me just mixing up all the ingredients and I’m really excited about it.
