Fans of female prison drama Orange Is The New Black will already be more than familiar with Ruby Rose.
Playing tattooed temptress Stella Carlin, Australian newcomer Ruby has become something of an overnight sensation, with her name sending twitter into overdrive within only a few hours of the new season premiering.
“Woke up trending on Twitter and I haven’t seen the show yet got me feeling realllllll vulnerable right now! Hope you’re all loving the show.”
Talented AND humble? Is it any wonder this girl is setting social media alight. Still not convinced?
The 29-year-old actress is famous for talking openly about her gender fluidity, and has recently revealed more about how she feels about gender reassignment in an interview with Access Hollywood. She admits that she considered the life changing operation after seeing a programme on the procedure when she was a small girl.
‘I had this jar that I would collect dollars, in fact it was probably cents, so I had like 19 cents to go towards this surgery that I didn’t really know a lot about,’ the actress discloses, later adding,
‘I was like, “That’s what I’m going to do,” and so I started saving probably from the age of like, five, and when I got to 15, that’s when I got more into my body and I shaved my head and my mum was just like, “I don’t know what’s going on right now, but if you are happy, then do it”.’
It was during the years following her teens that Ruby decided against any form of permanent transition, in favour of striving to feel more ‘comfortable’ in her own skin. She goes on to discuss how she’s decided to postpone her marriage to designer Phoebe Dahl until the furore surrounding her turn in Orange Is The New Black has calmed down somewhat. It’s clear that Ms Rose wasn’t expecting all the attention surrounding her character’s inclusion in the show, but is keen to emphasise that her and Phoebe are still as loved up as ever, despite the delay.

‘As it turns out we love being engaged, and I love the word ‘fiancée.’ It’s actually nice that we do wait that extra year and get to enjoy being engaged before we ball-and-chain it.’
Naww, too sweet. So, if that hasn’t made you fall hook, line and sinker for this tattooed beauty, here’s another six reasons why we’re ALL about Ruby Rose…
1. Ruby Rose’s Instagram
When she isn’t posting amazing pictures of herself looking fierce in photo shoots and campaign imagery (Rolling Stone anyone), she’s papping snaps of her adorable pooches. We love.
2. Her adorable relationship with Phoebe Dahl
As the owner of a charitable clothing line and granddaughter of Roald Dahl, Pheobe and Ruby make quite the power couple. Incredibly cool AND socially aware? Relationship goals…
3. Her message about gender fluidity
Along with being a youth ambassador for mental health charity Headspace, Ruby Rose is also very keen to talk about her own sexual identity. The powerful YouTube video entitled Break Free Ruby starred in to raise awareness about gender fluidity received over 3 million hits.
4. She’s a bit of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan
Piper may have given Ruby’s character Stella a hard time about her Leonardo tattoo, but Ruby isn’t afraid to wear her childhood loves on her sleeve.
5. Her positive body image
That steamy shower scene in Orange Is The New Black? Wowser.
6. Justin Bieber
Apparently Ruby gets mistaken for the Biebs all the time. Lols.
