Why There Needs To Be A Downton Abbey Musical

It’s fair to say that since Downton Abbey’s fianale, we’ve been left feeling rather bereft. But recent reports suggest that our favourite TV drama might be recreated in a whole other form. Yep, the rumour mill is in overdrive with news that DA (as we’re calling it) might just be made into a musical. A MUSICAL.

To celebrate such insanely tantalising news, we’ve decided to vocalise our unending passion, letting you all know exactly why we’d love to see Lady Mary tap dancing her way around a stage…

The dresses. We don’t really need to say much more, but since DA left our lives, we’ve been mourning the loss of our weekly retro style binge. Those gowns! Those gloves! And, people SINGING in dresses would be even better.

You know that calming effect certain people just naturally have over others? Well, Mrs Patmore has exactly that. When she’s not ‘frolicking’ with Ethel (in a strictly platonic sense), her hilarious one-liners are enough to rid anyone of those Sunday night blues. Just imagine such things set to music. And imagine the possibilities of a choreographed kitchen scene. It would be like ‘Be Our Guest’ all over again.

Violet Crawley. Ok, we’ve already braced ourselves for the fact that should this go ahead, Dame Maggie Smith will probably not be reprising her role as the Dowager Countess, but still. The character’s put-downs alone are reason enough to see any form of adaptation, and in case we haven’t made it clear yet, A MUSICAL ONE SOUNDS INCREDIBLE.

Obviously, we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground to bring you any update on this VERY exciting situation. And if you don’t quite share our enthusiasm, then we’re sorry. We just really, really like Downton Abbey.
