Karl Lagerfeld Is Fashion’s Where’s Wally

Make room on your bookshelf. Karl Lagerfeld has been given an illustrated makeover in the fashion world’s answer to the Where’s Wally? books – remember them?!

Yep, the 81-year-old Chanel and Fendi designer, along with cat Choupette, is the star of Where’s Karl? The brainchild of two fashion insiders, inspiration struck after the duo – Stacey Caldwell, vice president of Thakoon and Aji Riaki, a Paris based writer and fashion photographer – saw Monsiuer Lagerfeld in various Paris hotspots, and observed the reactions of fans and passers-by. Let’s face it – Karl has one very statement signature look. Where’s Karl? follows fictional fashion blogger Florence de la Sabina to fashion events around the world as she chases Karl and his fashionable crowd around fifteen cities in twelve months.

Stacey and Ali, together with illustrator Michelle Baron, have placed a pony-tail sporting, sunglasses and skinny-suit clad cartoon Lagerfeld in such fashionable locations as The Met Gala in New York, Coqui Coqui beach in Tulum, Art Basel Miami and, of course, the Chanel show at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Each scene was drawn from the tons of reference photos the duo shared on Pinterest boards along with Michelle, and Karl isn’t the only fashionable face you might spot in the fun books. While searching for the Kaiser, be sure to keep an eye out for fellow designers Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisci hanging out with Hello Kitty in Shibuya, Victoria’s Secret super Lily Aldridge and Thakoon raiding the cash register at a Karl Lagerfeld Hong Kong pop-up and the Olsen Twins wearing the ballgowns they wore to last year’s Charles James themed Met Gala. Oh, and Alexa Chung makes an appearance too. “That’s the real fun’, Caldwell says, ‘You think you’re looking for Karl, but you’re recognizing all these fashion people along the way.” We can’t wait.
