Like us, you probably spent most of last week swooning over the couture creations that walked the runways during the twice-yearly Paris shows. Chanel, Giambattista Valli, Valentino and Christian Dior all showcased new collections among various other fashion heavyweights.
But, have you ever thought, as you lusted over dress after dreamy dress, about how long it takes the big name design houses to create these stunning looks?Anything from 200 hours to half a year. Nope, we’re not joking (and that’s just one piece)
Following its show, Dior has released a super cool video that takes you into its Atelier, where the team works tirelessly to bring creative director Raf Simon’s modern vision of couture to life. From dying the coloured stripes to creating the crinkled effect on the full-skirt and first model fittings, it’s a fascinating – and funny – look into the inner workings of the fashion world. We particularly love the bit where a seamstress declares “These stripes will drive us crazy!”
With so much manpower and skill involved, we’re starting to see just why couture designs come with such crazy price tags. Fast fashion this isn’t!
