Victoria Beckham Unveils A New Design Direction At NYFW

Victoria Beckham showcased another knockout catwalk collection yesterday at New York Fashion Week, with industry insiders calling it the most accomplished show of NYFW so far.

Now, while we know we’ve claimed before that a line Victoria’s ‘best collection ever’, this time, we really mean it. Showing just how far she’s come as a designer, the body-con dresses of old were gone, replaced with a looser and much cooler silhouette. While VB dabbled with the androgynous look last season, this collection was the perfect mix of boy meets girl – think pleated dresses and skirts, slouchy trousers, oversized outerwear and Manolo Blahnik-designed pointed brogues.

Designed to flatter from every angle, the collection was coined ‘paparazzi-proof’ by Victoria, and the devil was most definitely in the detail. Coats that looked tailored from the front featured pleated backs, dresses were given the red carpet treatment with ruffled and feathered hems, and there were surprising splashes of bold print.

Obviously, FROW regulars David and Harper were in attendance, but this season the Beckham boys joined in the fash action for the first time too, with Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz perching next to Anna Wintour. When asked by a Spanish journalist how she juggles it all with four children, a modest Victoria replied: “You make me sound a lot better than I am. I just wanted them to see what I do – the boys have never been to a show before. For them to see that mummy works and daddy works is a very positive message.”

We couldn’t agree more. And we’d say that the celebratory family lunch at New York hotspot Balthazar following the show was very well deserved. Congrats, Victoria!
