So. Victoria Beckham had a pretty dramatic weekend.
The designer, 41, caused QUITE a bit of controversy in certain circles when she reportedly made a rather, er, sarcastic comment about her birthplace.
The dramz began when Victoria was introduced as being born in Harlow, Essex at a Fashion Icons talk with stylista Fern Mallis in New York last Wednesday.
As she came on stage, VB is quoted as saying: ‘I’d like to forget the Essex bit. It’s not a very nice place.’
While Victoria’s alleged comment was clearly a joke, it did NOT go down well with some Essex residents. And they weren’t afraid to speak their mind about it.
TOWIE‘s Joey Essex told The Sun: ‘I can’t believe Posh Spice has slagged us off – she is one of us, she should be proud to be from Essex.’
Lauren Pope – another of the show’s stars – added: ‘Posh was a hero of mine growing up, so I was disappointed.
‘I grew up in Devon but fell in love with Essex when I moved to Chigwell eight years ago. Essex people are nice and welcoming.’
Then Jasmin Walia said to the Sunday People: ”It’s a bit sad that she’s trying to forget her roots. When I read what she said, I was shocked.
‘She’s a local girl done good. She should be proud to come from there and made it.’
Now. In Victoria’s defence, she didn’t actually grow up in Essex. Despite being born there, she was raised in nearby Hertfordshire.

But she still managed to resolve the situation in the classiest way.
Yesterday, she posted an Instagram meme which read: ‘Essex girl and proud of it!’ Ah-mazing. She captioned the picture: ‘Happy Sunday in the sun fashion bunnies x x vb.’
All is right with the world again!
