Tom Hardy Explains Why He Shut Down *That* Reporter

Tom Hardy has spoken out about that awkward interview that happened earlier this week.

The incident happened at a Legend press conference at TIFF over the weekend when he dodged a question about his sexuality from LGBT site called Daily Xtra.

And now, the 37-year-old actor explained why he chose to shut the interview down. ‘That really, really annoyed me’, he told Entertainment Weekly. ‘It was just the inelegance of being asked in a room full of people.’

‘Now I’m happy to have a conversation, a discussion, at a reasonable time about anything. I’m confident in my own sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own being and talking about any issue you want to talk about it. But there is a time and a place for that.’

Hardy went on to add that he found it ‘very humiliating’.

During the Q&A, the reporter asked: ‘In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality. But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous.’

‘Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?’

Hardy is seen frowning throughout, before he responded incredulously: ‘What on earth are you on about?’

A nervous giggle erupted through the crowd, before the journalist explained that he was alluding to Hardy’s 2008 interview with Attitude magazine (in which he suggested he’d had relations with men).

Tom didn’t take this well. He replied shortly: ‘But what is your question?’

Things then got even more awkward. Repeating the guy’s original question, Hardy replied: ‘No, I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality’.

He then added bluntly: ‘Are you asking me about my sexuality?’

The reporter quipped, ‘sure’, to which the A-lister totally shut him down by asking ‘why’ and then giving a swift: ‘Thank you’ to close the interview.

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has made an interview incredible awkward.

Just last month, eyebrows were raised when Cara Delevingne was questioned by Good Morning Sacramento, who asked her if she needed to ‘take a nap’ due to her less than lively demeanor.

And let’s not forget Serena Williams, who gave the sassiest answer when a reporter asked her ‘why she wasn’t smiling.

Don’t mess with the A-list, people.
