The Supermodel Maternity Jeans You Need To Know Now

With a stellar modelling career behind her, Christy Turlington Burns (she’s married to actor, Edward Burns) has more recently turned her attention to various humanitarian causes, even establishing her own charity, Every Mother Counts, dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for women around the world. Mother of two herself, Christy has now added another string to her bow, teaming up with Citizens of Humanity to create a brand new maternity range, available exclusively on Shopbop.com.

“Maternity wear has come a long way since I was pregnant,” Christy told Vogue. ““There is no excuse to not look stylish when you are a mom these  days—and you can absolutely be comfortable and stylish at the same time.” The model has confessed she lives in denim on a daily basis, making this collaboration a bit of a no-brainer. Plus, proceeds from sales will go to Every Mother Counts.

Some of the brand’s classic styles (the Avedon skinny, for example), have been re-designed to suit the needs of all expectant mothers (we’re talking super stretchy elastic panels, of course), and there’s also distressed flares, white jeans and even denim cut-offs. While the prices are at the investment end of the scale starting at around £105, you won’t only be helping a very worthy cause, you can also rest assured that you’ll be styling out your pregnancy like a supermodel.

So which piece is the model’s favourite? “They’re all great. Last time I was pregnant, I pretty much sized up on all of the clothes I had. There’s just so many options now,” she told WWD. Well, if we had to choose a maternity icon, we think Christy would be a good choice. Remember that Escada gown on the Met Gala red carpet back in 2008?

We’ve seen more and more brands launching more trend-focused maternity lines of late, meaning there’s increasing options for pregnancy style. But in terms of jeans, we reckon Christy’s Citizens of Humanity line is a fail-safe, particularly in terms of cut and fit.

Supermodel-endorsed denim? Well, when you put it like that…
