Remember when the fashion world went crazy for robing? Barely a day went by without our favourite street stylers being papped with their coats pefectly positioned on their shoulders. And, we’ve even spotted the cool kids tying theirs around their waists, ’90s-style. But, while we love the hands-free potential of both these nifty tricks, we’ve noticed a whole new movement storming the style set.
Yup, there’s only one way to wear your outerwear this spring, and it’s all about the drape. All you have to do is let your cover-up fall slightly off your shoulders, so that it’s hanging lower than usual. We know it might sound odd, but trust us when we say that this crafty technique has made for some of the coolest looks we’ve seen. Case in point is blogger Patricia Manfield (above), who made us swoon with her draped jacket worn over her Kenzo denim. Topped off with her trusty pair of Stan Smiths, Patricia gives us all a masterclass in nonchalance, which is basically the essence of French girl chic after all.
Don’t believe us? Well, supermodel Ming Xi and trendsetter Chiara Ferragni have also both been doing a drape, and we’re definitely going to be getting in on the act. What we love most about this outfit quirk is that, given the changeable nature of the British spring weather, it’s the perfect way to tackle the indecisive seasons. Half-on, half-off. And did we mention that it looks really cool?
So, make like the fash pack and give your shoulders a rest- it’s all about the jacket drape!
