When it comes to Strictly Come Dancing, you never know what you’re gonna get (as Forrest Gump would say). There are always the ones who you just know will fly through to the final, the ones who ‘go on a journey’ and then the ones which are just pretty rubbish but we love to watch them anyway. With the new series of Strictly starting on BBC 1 imminently, we’re here to provide you with your need-to-know.
So who’s been confirmed so far?
1. Peter Andre
It sounds like Peter Andre is pretty nervous about joining the show, Tweeting: ‘Finally I’m putting on the shoes ….. And the outfits …. Plse Wish me luck, I’m nervous :))))))) @bbcstrictly #strictly.’
2. Carol Kirkwood
BBC Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood told Breakfast’s Bill Turnbull that she was excited about taking part. She then admitted to having a soft spot for Strictly dancer Aljaž Skorjanec. Oooh!
3. Katie Derham
Katie’s said: ‘Strictly Come Dancing is a national treasure, and I’m extremely excited to be part of such a wonderful show.’
4. Jeremy Vine
Chris Evans announced on his radio show that author and news presenter Jeremy was the first competitor. Jezza seemed super happy, saying: “How could I say no to the biggest show on TV? Yes, yes and yes again to the sequins and the Samba! I am doing it for my two young daughters who jumped behind the sofa when I told them! It seems Dad on Strictly is more scary than Doctor Who!”

5. Ainsley Harriott
Making his debut on our screens in the ‘90s with Ready Steady Cook and Can’t Cook Won’t Cook, Ainsley is the very happy floral-shirt-wearing TV chef who we presume will be able to keep up his energy levels with lots of delicious snacks whilst he’s training.
6. Kellie Bright
Eastenders star Kellie has temporarily left The Vic (where she plays landlady Linda Carter) in honour of spangly sequins and frou-frou frocks. Kellie said: “I will be turning 40 next year, so I think it is the perfect time for a new, exciting challenge. The second reason is because if I said ‘no’ Linda Carter would never forgive me!”
7. Georgia May Foote
Best known for playing Katy on t’cobbles of Coronation Street, Georgia said: “I am so excited to be part of Strictly 2015! It is something I have always wanted to take part in and now I just can’t wait to get started! I love dancing and I love a challenge so this is the perfect experience for me.”
Loose Woman presenter and one of our favourite ’90s pop stars Jamelia will also be joining the line-up. Speaking of her daughters, the former teen star said: ‘My girls are huge fans of Strictly, but when I told them I was doing it they laughed as they know that dancing is not my forte. The girls are amazing dancers, though, so I definitely want to learn a new skill so that I’ll be able to give them a run for their money, and end them teasing me once and for all.’ Aw.
9. Jay McGuinnes (from The Wanted)
Since The Wanted boys have parted ways, Jay’s had plenty of time to brush up on his dancing skills. And we can’t wait to see him in action. ”My family are such huge Strictly fans, I know I’ve made them very happy by taking part – I can’t wait to get started!’ the 25-year-old gushed.
10. Anita Rani
The TV presenter (The One Show and Countryfile) and radio show host is thrilled to be the latest addition to the Strictly celebrity line-up. ‘When my mum first came from India to the UK, she’d watch the original series of Strictly and would dream of dancing and wearing those gorgeous dresses, and now I’m able to realise her dream. That makes me feel amazing. My mum devoted her life to me and my brother and it’s great to be able to do things to make her proud.’
11. Anthony Agogo
Watch out Peter Andre – there’s some new eye candy for the dancefloor, and it comes in the form of professional boxer Anthony Agogo. So, is he excited? ”ve faced a lot of tough opposition in the past, but I’ve never faced anyone as tough as the Strictly judges before! My mum is a massive fan of the show so I will be trying my hardest to make her proud’, he said.
12. Helen George
The Call The Midwives star will be lacing up those dancing shoes and joining her fellow celebrities to attempt to scoop the glitterball trophy for 2015. And just like we would be, Helen’s excited for ALL the right reasons. ‘I can’t wait to get my tan and sequins on’, she gushed.
Who picked up the glitter ball trophy last year?
X Factor host Caroline Flack triumphed as the winner, thanks to that Charleston.
Will Tess and Claudia be back?
Tess and Claudia presented the series together for the first time in 2014 after Brucie retired to take a good old rest. Whilst nothing has been confirmed yet, it’s thought the pair will be back. We jolly well hope so as Claud’s innuendos made the series for us last year.
We literally cannot wait to see this year’s saucy salsas and tantalising tangos (OK, we’re sounding like Bruce now, sorry). But first up, who will be paired with whom?
Strictly Come Dancing starts on BBC 1 on 2nd September.
