Each couture season, Karl Lagerfeld transforms Paris’ beautiful Grand Palais into a scenic spectacle. In the past we’ve seen jumbo jets, giant perfume bottles and a colossal golden lion clutching a pearl, but for spring/summer 13, it became a snow covered woodland. And who better to occupy such a setting than Chanel-clad flower fairies and gothic brides?
Models swept through the pines and oaks in tulle tiers and feathered hemlines, dripping in beaded, embroidered and sequin flowers, with intricate beauty looks to match, as showcased by current Chanel crush Cara Delevinge. Column gowns, timeless shifts and naturally, boucle suits were teamed with peep toe thigh high boots in lace, black leather and metallic macramé.
As for the FROW, it was somewhat less starry than usual, adding to the intimate feel of the show, but Cara’s BFF Rita Ora was catwalk-side to support her. The platimum popstar worked her take on Chanel-chic, teaming a winter white maxi dress with a tomato red leather jacket. Do we spy a Chanel ambassador in the making Mr Lagerfeld? GG
