Fashion News Ed’s Diary: LA Day 2

The sun is shining in Los Angeles and I’ve had another jam-packed day. Firstly, let me tell you about my VIP celeb spot. It happened last night when I spied none other than John Corbett, aka Aiden from Sex And The City, in Soho House. Being a massive SATC fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement!

Now, back to the main event of the day – surfing. Nike took a group of us journos to Santa Monica beach for surf lessons with pro women surfers Lakey Peterson, Coco Ho, Carissa Moore, Monyca Byrne-Wickey, Malia Manuel and Laura Enever. These girls are part of Nike 6.0’s newly launched film Leave A Message and believe me, they are ace surfers. I watched in awe as they hovered along the waves with ease – all tans and blonde hair, I was super-jealous! Luckily my wetsuit held me in like a pair of Spanx!

I quizzed the girls about surfer fashion and whether they follow trends. “The thing is with surf bikinis you want them to be functional and cute,” said Carissa Moore. Cute for themselves or cute for the boys, I asked. “Cute for the boys!” she chuckled. And out of the water? “It’s all about bikinis, beanies and hoodies,” Lakey Peterson told me. Needless to say, I couldn’t stand up on my surfboard on the first attempt, or the second, or the third, but I’m so pleased I tried. It was well worth swallowing a mouthful of salty sea water just to tick surfing off my list of things to do before I die!

Tonight was all about Nike 6.0’s surf girl film premiere Leave A Message. We all hit the red carpet for pre-premiere drinks and then headed to the auditorium for the grand screening. The audience roared as each surfer was profiled one by one and there were gasps and cheers as Lakey, Coco, Carissa, Monyca, Malia and Laura rode tubes (the bit that looks like they’re surfing in a barrel) and looked like totally awesome beach babes all round. No wonder they’ve got killer bodies, just wait until you see them move! I’ll be back with more reporting live from LA tomorrow LOOKsters. LW
