Rihanna never fails to surprise us when it comes to her red carpet choices, and last night at the 2015 Grammys was no different.
We half expected the Bajan beauty to pull another CDFA stunt in some kind of see-through, nipple-baring ensemble. Or to perhaps channel her inner tomboy in nothing but a lady tux jacket, a la the British Fashion Awards?
But no. Instead, the 26-year-old made our jaws drop in an entirely different way by sauntering onto the red carpet in this poufey pink sugar plum fairy gown by Giambattista Valli.
We remember seeing this ruffled cupcake dress at the fashion house’s Spring 2015 couture show, when it made all of our Disney princess dreams come true. But we never imagined anyone could actually wear such a sugary sweet (and OTT) creation IRL.
Except Rihanna did.
Featuring a tiny silk bandeau top embellished with ornate crystals, the star’s frock then exploded into multiple layers of candied tulle, creating a prettier than pretty empire line and allowing RiRi to go girlier than she’s ever gone before.
So where did she first see the one-of-a-kind frock? ‘I saw it on the internet and I just fell in love with it’, she told reporters on the night.
With her dress nabbing all the attention, Rihanna went simple with her hair and make-up, working gorgeously fresh skin, a light smokey brown eye and a natural lip with a simple updo.
Well, it wouldn’t be a US awards do without RiRi making the headlines, would it?
