We’ll be honest with you; we’re finding it pretty difficult to contemplate life PDA. That’s Post-Downton Abbey (obviously) and it’s most probably going to involve one box set and a LOT of weekends in January. With the sixth and final series already done and dusted (sob), all we have to look forward to is the Christmas special, which will air on Christmas Day at 8.45pm. Will Lady Edith be ok? Will Carson stop being such a sexist? Will Lord Grantham acquire any more dogs? So. Many. Questions.

Anyway, the point is we all love it, and we don’t want it to end. But while we thought that we were the biggest super fans out there, it turns out there’s a very famous Downton enthusiast who is gutted, nay, DEVASTATED, that the end is nigh for the period drama. ‘Who?’ we hear you cry. Well, it’s none other than Sean Combs a.k.a P.DIDDY. This isn’t a joke, we promise.
We knew that Downton had amassed a huge following in the US, and P.Diddy has even appeared in a Funny Or Die spoof video of the drama before, but we have to say we didn’t quite see this coming. Participating in a BAFTA TV Tribute produced ahead of the show’s finale, the rapper positively gushed about Downton Abbey. Diddy (it’s probably fine to call him that) said: “I’m interested in history, kings, and lords. I watched episode one and got wrapped up in it. Then I found out I had a crush on Lady Sybil. I watched it every week to see her pretty eyes and discovered the show was excellent. The writing is incredible and each character is such a great actor.”

Excuse us, but WHAT? Jennifer Lopez’s ex-boyfriend HAS A CRUSH ON LADY SYBIL?! This is too much. But, surprisingly, it gets even better, as the rapper revealed that he feels so passionately about the TV show that he sent disgruntled FAN MAIL in response to his one true love’s death: “When [Sybil] died, it was devastating to me,” Diddy said, adding “I was angry and wrote to the creators saying it was uncalled for and stressful. Then when Matthew Crawley died, it was straight tears in my house.” Us too, Diddy, us too.
Giving us even more insight into his love for Downton, P.Diddy told BAFTA that he even identifies with one of the main characters, revealing: “[Matthew Crawley’s] plight as an outsider coming in, being hit with a fortune and having to figure it out, reminded me of myself.” Erm, ok.
You can probably guess how Diddy feels about the show ending this year… “I’m not happy that the show is ending. We have to do something about it.”
If you want to start a petition, P.Didz, we’re right behind you.
