When Cara Duggan’s mother was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, the mother of two from Belfast, Northern Ireland was determined to do everything she could to help her build strength. In a last ditch attempt to counteract the gruelling side effects of harsh chemotherapy, Cara looked to the Nutribullet to help implement a nutrient-packed diet into her mother’s life.
She told Buzzfeed: “A while after her last chemo session Mum’s legs started swelling which turned out to be blood clots, but as they were undiagnosed they had travelled to her lungs. These blood clots left her with no energy and she’s been really struggling with nausea, so we decided to get her a juicer.”
However, whilst struggling to scrape together funds to cover treatment, the £149.99 price tag seemed impossibly expensive. So, Duggan took to Gumtree to hunt for a second-hand version where she came across the juicer for £130 – and one seriously good Samaritan. Tissues at the ready..
Cara contacted the seller to explain her situation and check to see if the second-hand Nutribullet could be posted:
The seller informed Cara she didn’t need to pay, as he was so sorry to hear of her mum’s illness:
Despite offering to pay, Cara then received an order number, which the seller explained was for the NEW Nutribullet HE HAD JUST BOUGHT FOR HER MUM:
When Cara expresses her shocks and thanks, JUST LOOK AT WHAT THIS MAN SAYS IN RESPONSE:
What a great human being.
Speaking to BuzzFeed, she added: “I was shocked, and then thought maybe I’d read it wrong. The cynic in me didn’t really believe the Nutribullet would be there until the woman actually handed it across the counter. It’s just incredible, his gesture was huge, but it’s had an even greater impact than he could have imagined now it’s gone viral.”
