Why Everybody’s Talking About *This* MTV VMAs Outfit

Catfish's Nev Schulman arrived on the red carpet with his pregnant girlfriend, and she really wanted to let her bump shine...

There were certainly some unique outfits on the MTV VMAs red carpet.

But as celebrities arrived at the star-studded event on Sunday night, there was one ensemble in particular that got people talking.

Catfish‘s Nev Schulman headed to the New York bash with his pregnant fiancée Laura Perlongo.

The 31-year-old was wearing black jeans and a khaki shirt. Nice and smart, right? However, Laura’s look attracted a little more attention.

She’d colour co-ordinated with her husband-to-be, working black pants and a green bomber… and that was pretty much it.

Yep. She’d proudly put her blossoming tum on full display, accessorising with a silver choker, body chain, nude heels and a fishtail plait.

It was quirky, but d’ya know what? She looked AH-mazing. Because what’s more beautiful than a growing baby bump?

Nev clearly agreed. He looked in total awe of Laura, bending down to plant a kiss on her stomach.

He also Tweeted: ‘She’s a badass! Nothing better than a confident baby mama!’

However, this didn’t stop people from sending pretty harsh messages on Twitter. *Sigh*.

These included: ‘But like, how do i unsee this?’ and: ‘I am still shook by what Nev’s wife wore, or didnt wear, last night [sic].’

The couple have since hit back, with Laura telling Attn: ‘There is so much pressure on women to look a certain way. That “way” is hard to achieve even when you’re not pregnant.

‘Be sexy, but not too sexy. Be confident, but wear something that fits our current standard of acceptable.

‘When it came to choosing an outfit for last night, I wasn’t feeling the pregnancy options that were out there – they made me feel like a big blob or were tight and constricting.

‘That is, they made me feel more self-conscious than just being myself and wearing my skin. And yeah, I wanted to rep my fellow pregnant ladies (s/o to the baby bumps).’

Supporting his lady, Nev added: ‘Whoever says pregnant and sexy can’t go together, you’re wrong!

‘Over the past eight months I’ve watched my fiancée carry and care for our child and transform into the magical goddess she is now and to me this is the most beautiful she has ever been.

‘I couldn’t be more proud of and inspired by her.’

Awww, you guys. Big congratulations!
