With all eyes on the red carpets at the BAFTAs here in London and the Grammys in LA, the annual Directors Guild of America Awards were relatively low key in comparison, with a handful of A-listers and Hollywood power players attending the ceremony in which Birdman was the big winner of the night. But the sartorial champion was, in our humble opinion, none other than Lea Michele, who took a timeless after-dark style formula and made us fall in love with it all over again.
For her turn as one of the evening’s presenters, Lea opted for a draped Balmain spaghetti strap dress. Her hair was slicked back into a ponytail, while she added gold Balmain cuffs on each arm and chose Alexandre Birman ankle-tie sandals. Although one of the most simple red carpet outfits we’ve spotted in a long time, we’re entirely obsessed. The draping of the dress is super flattering, while the front slit shows off those heels to perfection, and we love that Lea (apart from those cuffs) kept her jewels to a minimum.
In fact, we’re so taken with this LBD winner that we’ve decided to make it our new nighttime knock-out. Yep, we’ve hunted down the perfect homage to the Glee star’s frock and accessories so we can all recreate the look ourselves. Asos’ scuba midi will make you Balmain army-ready in no time, and these pretty bow sandals from Nelly.com are a steal at less than £40. And, as for the wrist candy, there are plenty of cuffs on the high street at the moment, but we love this Topshop beauty for just £12.50.
That’s an entire red carpet outfit for less than £100- what’s not to love? We think we’ve just found our excuse to plan next weekend already. Not bad for a Monday morning…
