River Island has announced the latest designer to collaborate with them as part of the Design Forum, an initiative previously undertaken by emerging designers such as Katie Eary and Joseph Turvey. For AW14, Liz Black has created a collection inspired by Russian royalty and Faberge eggs, with laser cut dresses, Scuba separates and corset silhouettes- all in a brooding palette of black, midnight blues and glistening greys.
A Central Saint Martin’s graduate, Liz was selected by Roland Mouret in 2011 as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Fashion Fringe Awards, and has even gone on to dress Lady Gaga (Liz was responsible for the monochromatic circle dress the pop super star wore in 2011). She told us: ‘The first time I visited London I went shopping in River Island, where I ended up buying much more than I intended! I never imagined that 14 years later I would be asked to design a capsule collection especially for them.’
The 9-piece range of ready to wear and accessories will be on sale in stores and online from September, and will launch via a short film due to be screened during London Fashion Week. With prices starting at £30, we’re definitely marking this one on our calendars.
