Kylie Jenner has responded to the tidal wave of teens who are plumping up their lips – and often hurting themselves – in their attempts to look like her.
Yesterday this trend, the #KylieJennerChallenge, took over internet sites, including Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Wanting to mirror Kylie Jenner’s pout, a host of teenage girls were taking part in swelling up their lips using an air vacuum, and posting their results online.
Causing a worldwide trend across social media, it was only a matter of time before the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star would see it for herself.
Last night, in a series of dramatic tweets, Kylie addressed the phenomenon.
She tweeted, “I’m not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look.”
She went on, “I want to encourage people/young girls like me to be YOURSELF & not be afraid to experiment w your look.” Her closing statement was met with 15 thousand retweets and 25 thousand favourites, with fans responding to show their adoration for the teen star.
We knew that Kylie wouldn’t approve of these measures, and it’s great to see her promoting a positive message.
We sat down with the star last time she came to London, and we simply had to ask her about her famous lips. She told us, “I’m obsessed with lip liners – everyone always asks me which ones I use, but I don’t just have one, I have at least 10 nude liners alone.”
There’s no doubt that the Kardashian sisters have prompted a craze of loving curves, and it’s clear that Kylie has inspired a desire for a fuller, glossy pout. But we’re sure that the Nip+Fab ambassador would not encourage her fans to indulge in this challenge.
Unless you’ve been boycotting your newsfeeds, it’s more than likely that you’ve encountered the wave that’s taking over social media right now.

No, it’s not Kim Kardashian and her world famous booty (sorry, Paper Magazine). It’s Kylie Jenner and those lips. Or fans attempting to mirror them, to be more accurate.
Taking drastic measures to enhance their pout Kylie Jenner-style, teens the world over are reaching for their nearest glass tumbler or cup.
Those getting involved are achieving these unnatural results by placing their mouths inside a cup, and sucking the air out until the vacuum causes their lips to swell. Ouch.
Her fans have been posting their results online using the hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge, which is currently trending across social networking sites worldwide.
The power of Kardashian, eh?
It’s concerning that people would go to these extreme lengths in order to achieve a certain look, and also that most of the participants seem to be younger than the 17-year-old Kardashian herself.
It has been reported that these measures are damaging and harmful, causing bruising and uncomfortable swelling. The after effects sometimes last for hours, or days, afterwards.
Kylie Jenner’s lips have been a hot topic of conversation ever since the reality star began to boast a fuller pout on her family’s hit TV show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Backed up by her love of a made-up selfie, and her ever-increasing Instagram following, the obsession grew.
The star admits that she loves make-up, “…when I do my makeup I like to really do my makeup.” In her interview with Teen Vogue, the star went on, “A good night out is, like, two and a half hours for full makeup, curling hair, whatever. I love false lashes – individuals, strips, extensions.”
There are more natural – and safe – ways of playing with the fuller-lip look, and we’re here to give you our beauty tips on how to achieve them. Safely.
We’ve taken you through a step-by-step of how to join the lip plump parade, using the contents of your make-up bag and the safety of your ‘liner pencil.
Our beauty team has hand picked their favourite 3D lipsticks, that will contour your pout to plumped-up perfection.
There are also some products on the market that will help you achieve the bee-stung appearance, without any hazardous (and ouch-worthy) bruising.
The Too Faced lip plumper range now comes in a range of colours, making it easy to enhance your pout and sport a bright lip colour at the very same time. The natural botanicals also smooth and moisturize, making it the caring option for your pout, whilst adding extra kissability.
By all means experiment with these handy make-up tricks of the trade (well, you’ve got to love a new beauty product or two, right?).
But it’s also time to embrace your natural lips and show them some lovin’ too…
