Longtime Chanel favourite Keira Knightley has been snapped up for a seriously stylish new role, playing Coco Chanel in a short film directed by Karl Lagerfeld. In celebration of the brand’s 100th anniversary, the film will be set in the French seaside town of Deauville, the location of the first ever Chanel boutique.
It’s not the first time Keira – one of Karl’s many muses – has filmed for Chanel. Remember her as a leather clad biker girl zooming round Paris for the Coco Mademoiselle advert? This time, she’ll star as the icon behind the label alongside French actress Clotilde Hemse as Coco’s aunt Adrienne, Chanel ambassadors Tallulah Harlech and Stella Tennant and Karl’s godson and catwalk regular Hudson Kroenig – cue a chorus of aww’s!
Keira and co land in town this week to start filming, recreating the village exactly as it was 100 years ago, and the film will premiere in May when Chanel showcases the next Cruise collection in Singapore. We’ll be waiting will bated breath Karl. GG
