It’s no secret that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are not exactly BFFE’s. The pair have been in a pretty public, lengthy feud ever since the country singer alleged that a certain someone stole dancers from her tour back in 2014. Taylor suggested that the unnamed singer had planned to sabotage her whilst on her tour and while it was never confirmed that the comment was about Katy P, it was always assumed to be..
Even though the pair haven’t been the closest since then, there doesn’t seem to have been any major digs from either side in quite a while. That is until it was recently revealed that Katy Perry’s latest fragrance was called ‘Mad Love’, suggesting an attempt to throw some shade at Swift. Uh oh.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor has previously said she was unsure whether or not her and Katy were actually friends: “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not, She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and i would think, ‘Are we friends or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”
She also commented on the attempts of ‘another female artist’ to sabotage her tour, saying: “it had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage the entire areas tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me… so now i have to avoid her.”
And just last year Taylor came forward and said that Katy had taken their already unsure relationship to straight up enemies. “[Katy] did something so horrible, I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy!”
There was speculation about whether or not ‘Bad Blood’ was in fact written about Katy Perry after Taylor made it clear that the song was not written about a guy. “I knew the song would be assigned to a person, and the easiest mark was someone who I didn’t want to be labeled with this song,” she said. “It was not a song about heartbreak, it was about the loss of a friendship.”

In the past Katy has also taken to her Twitter account to tweet cryptic messages that might well be about the Bad Blood star. “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing..’ she posted.
But, despite all the speculation and rumours, it does seem like there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for the name choice, seeing as Katy’s 2015 perfume was called ‘Mad Potion’, ‘Mad Love’ seems like a pretty obvious follow up choice.
But the New York daily News isn’t convinced and thinks this is a pretty deliberate dig from Katy. Whichever it is, just try and play nice guys, please?
