Is Rihanna Bringing The Floppy ’90s Bucket Hat Back?

Rihanna is never one for reigning in her sartorial experimentation. And her latest choice of headgear was the talk of the Brooklyn Nets vs Miami Heat basketball game in the US.

The 25-year-old Bajan beauty looked like courtside royalty perched on the front row in her ladylike sport luxe Bernhard Willhelm bomber jacket and matching running shorts. And accessorising her silky floral two-piece? A baby pink Givenchy tote, matching pink and gold ankle strap stilettos and… a floppy floral bucket hat.

Usually seen exclusively on the likes of Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown, the ’90s throwback accessory is a bit of a Marmite one. But we reckon RiRi’s dollar-bill emblazoned Joyrich headwear just about worked with her out-there ensemble. She was also seen wearing a camo version last year (below), along with Miley Cyrus, who’s also shown no fear when it comes to this particular retro revival.

We’ve noticed a few fisherman floppies popping up amongst the too-cool grunge queens of the street style set, too – London model Grace Small recently admitted her floppy Obey Floral Bucket Hat (£20.75) is an essential staple of her sassy 90s aesthetic.
