Dakota Johnson’s style has left us enamoured of late, thanks to a parade of super chic designer looks we want to wear ourselves. Yesterday, she did it again, proving her worth at Milan Fashion Week, no less. As Gucci staged its SS16 show, Dakota joined Salma Hayek and Alexa Chung on the front row, and all three A-list ladies were bedecked in Gucci, naturally.
Dakota managed to sum up our current sartorial mood in one outift thanks to her burgundy, ruffled frock taken from Gucci’s AW15 collection, paired with a black tailored coat and nude mules. What with the ridiculously indecisive weather we’re encountering at the moment, Dakota’s look hits the autumnal nail on the head.
Alongside her were Salma Hayek, wearing Gucci Resort 2016 and Alexa Chung, who had braved the rain in those furry loafers that have had the fashion pack obsessing for a while now. Karen Elson was also there, as well as more street style stars and fashion insiders than you could shake a stick at; in fact, we’ve never seen so much Gucci in one place.
Except, of course, on the catwalk itself, which was an incredible, beautiful expansion on last season’s ideas. Since taking the helm at the Italian house, Alessandro Michele has taken Gucci’s style codes and injected them with riotous colour and a new kind of geek-chic that’s already becoming iconic in itself- no wonder Alexa was FROW-side.
Oversized, chiffon pussybows were still particularly prominent for next season, only this time they were worn with black leather bikers decorated with elaborate floral prints. Ruffles, embroidery, sheer dresses, coloured lace, satin blouses, shimmering column gowns, and high-shine finishes… all made for a collection that, as Salma Hayek described it, was ’emotional and mind blowing.’

Dakota Johnson said backstage that SS16 proved that Alessandro Michele was ‘even more talented than before’ and we’d have to agree with her. One thing’s for sure, we can expect to see this rainbow collection on the backs of pretty much every trendsetter come spring. Those GG belts have got waiting list written all over them.
