Get Ready- Gucci Is Coming To Westminster Abbey

He was only appointed as Gucci’s new Creative Director last January, but Alessandro Michele has already made major waves in the industry. His signature brand of geek chic has given the label a brand new look, and it’s one we all want to try. From those gold mules to the foil pleat skirts and pussybow blouses, our Instagram feeds have been full of Michele’s designs, and everyone from Dakota Johnson to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been spotted in them, too.

You can imagine our delight, then, on hearing that the iconic Italian label is set to stage its Cruise 2017 collection on our shores. The Pre-Spring/Summer show will in fact be held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June. That’s one pretty spectacular location.

While the venue has played host to some very memorable events in history, including the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, Gucci will be the first ever fashion house to hold a show there.

The in-between collections (that is, the pre-spring/summer and pre-autumn/winter offerings) have become more and more spectacular in recent seasons, thanks to the world’s biggest fashion behemoths choosing far-flung, extravagant locations. For its last Cruise show, Dior decamped to Cannes, Chanel chose Seoul and Louis Vuitton picked Palm Springs. Gucci went to New York, where models paraded across the street on their way to the show, showing off the colourful collection before it even hit the runway.

While Gucci’s catwalk will be in our very own capital city, the rest of fashion’s big names have settled for slightly more exotic climes. Louis Vuitton will travel to Rio di Janeiro, while Chanel is flying off to Cuba.

Well, if we can’t quite make it to Havana, we’re more than happy to settle for The Cloisters at Westminster Abbey.
