You Will Never Guess Who Nearly Played Blair And Serena

We’re not sure we can imagine anyone other than Blake Lively and Leighton Meester having played Blair and Serena, but apparently these ladies were not always up for the parts. David Rapaport, the casting director behind the famous show has revealed to Buzzfeed who else was up for the roles – and the results are rather surpising.

It was actually Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis who were in the running to play the infamous Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, although which actress would play which role hasn’t been revealed.

Rapaport explained, “I think the network initially pitched us Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis for Blair and Serena. I love Rumer, she’s grown into quite an amazing actress and person, but that, to me, was based on protecting the investment of a television show where creatively, these lesser-known girls really captured the essence of the show and carried it for six years.”

Although Blake and Leighton were relatively unknown, David knew that they would be the best girls for the show. Brought in to emulate what had happened on The O.C, he was instructed that they needed to find “the next Mischa Barton and Adam Brody.”

When it came to Serena, he immediately knew who should play the part:

“Blake Lively was literally the only person I could think of for Serena…I was terrified we wouldn’t get her or they wouldn’t like her because, honestly, the show lived and died on her and I had absolutely no other ideas.”

Of course it all worked out perfectly and Blake played the role of Serena in exquisite style for five seasons. Meanwhile Leighton won David over with her cold professionalism. He said, “She wasn’t going to kiss everyone’s ass and that was very Blair.”

Although we would love to see how Rumer and Ashley would have done it, we definitely think that David made the right choice because it’s impossible to imagine anyone else playing B and S in quite the same way.
