Fashion hearts broke all around the world this week as Gisele Bundchen announced that she would be ending her catwalk career. It was reported that the gorgeous Brazillian would be walking in her final catwalk show for a brand called Colcci during Sao Paulo Fashion Week and yesterday, it happened.
With her gorgeous husband Tom Brady sitting proudly on the FROW, Gisele stutted down the catwalk in a white halterneck broderie anglaise dress and then an orange and white striped number.
Clearly feeling emotional about hanging up her heels, Gisele posted a series of cute snaps on her Instagram page including an image of her when she first started modelling. She captioned it:
“I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.”
Another image showed her wearing a tee which simply read, “The best is yet to come.”
Speaking to Brazillian newspaper, Folha de Sao Paulo, Ms Bundchen explained:
“Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked me to stop. I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop. I don’t see how to continue modelling on the catwalk. Stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself.”
Gisele, who has strutted down the catwalk hundreds of times for the most famous fashion brands in the world – including the likes of Victoria’s Secret, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana – has officially walked in her final show.
However, just because she won’t be on the runway doesn’t mean she’ll be disappearing anytime soon. The super will continue with her campaign and editorial work as well as lots of those secret “other projects” so there’s no need to be too sad.
