Ok, so it’s still a maybe at this point, but we’ve well and truly got our hopes up. Flight of the Conchords could be coming soon to a cinema near all of us. Yes, really. Since the show ended in 2009, we have been left adrift on the sea of life with nothing to fill the void that Jemaine and Bret left behind, so this recent news has obviously given us reason to celebrate.
Speaking to Indiewire, Jemaine responded to a question about a possible film saying: “We have actually started writing one. But who knows if it will ever be made, we’ve written some notes for some different film ideas.” Oh, what we would give to see such ideas.

Given that Jemaine and Bret have already brought joy into our lives in the form of ‘Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymnoceros’ and ‘Business Time’ (seriously, YouTube is waiitng for you), it goes without saying that a feature-length Flight of the Conchords would be incredible. And we don’t use that word lightly. They even taught us to speak French (sort of).
Jemaine has been promoting his current film, People Places Things, in which he plays a divorcee with twin daughters. The actor also mentioned his upcoming role in Steven Spielberg’s BFG, revealing that he will play an ‘evil giant’ alongside Trainwreck star, Bill Hader.

There are so many reasons to be excited, we can’t cope. We’ll have to wait until July next year to see the new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic novel but until then, we’ll content ourselves with episodes of Flight of the Conchords, and maybe The Muppets, too (Bret won an Oscar for the soundtrack).
And let’s just hope that Jemaine and Bret’s ‘film ideas’ are put into practice sooner rather than later. The world needs it. We need it.
