It has been confirmed that Emily Blunt is in talks with Dreamworks to play the lead role in best-selling book and psychological thriller, ‘The Girl On The Train’. The film, which is being hailed as the new ‘Gone Girl’, comes from the wildly succesful novel that sat at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list for 12 weeks and sold over 2 million copies! A hit at the box office, this may well be.

The book – which was written by Paula Hawkins – follows an overweight alcoholic who gets a little obsessed fantasizing about a couple she sees on her daily train ride before somehow becoming entangled in a murder investigation.

The unreliable narrator draws parallels with ‘Gone Girl’ which was a huge box office smash last year. Rosamund Pike played the female lead and went on to get an Oscar nomination for her incredible performance.

There are rumours that Ms Pike may also be taking on a role in ‘The Girl On The Train’ or that Rachel Weisz, Carey Mulligan or Kate Mara are up for the parts of Anna or Megan. Whoever is chosen to star in the film, it is sure to be star-studded and a serious success.

The film is being directed by Tate Taylor of ‘The Help’ and being adapted from the novel into a film by Erin Cressida Wilson. Exactly how it will develop, we are not sure, but if Emily Blunt plays the lead, we are pretty sure it’s going to be one of the biggest film events of the year and we can’t wait for it. If you haven’t read the book, make it one of your summer reads because the whole world (and the entire LOOK office) is totally obsessed!
