Donatella Versace Is The New Face Of Givenchy

Yes, it’s true Donatella Versace has landed a major campaign and it’s not for Versace – scandalous!

The blonde bombshell has teamed up with designer bestie (and Givenchy Creative Director) Riccardo Tisci to front the Givenchy FW15 campaign.

Now, we’re used to designers fronting their own campaigns (Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford & Anglea Missoni have all posed for their own brands in the past) but this is our first designer modelling for designer moment – and we have to say, we’re rather loving it!

The Givenchy honcho often thinks outside the typical model box for his campaigns, choosing Julia Roberts to front his Spring 15 campaign, and using transgender model Lea T and albino model, Stephen Thompson, in previous advertisements. 

Tisci first took to Instagram back in April to announce the hot hook up with a simple black and white shot of himself and Donatella side by side. He captioned the snap, “So proud and honored to introduce my new ultimate icon: Donatella Versace… FW15 Givenchy Family Campagin MORE TO COME SOON.”.

Donatella swiftly returned the favour on the Versace Instagram account, regramming  the snap and captioning it, “For my talented friend Riccardo. Together we break fashion boundaries today! – DV”

And yesterday, Givenchy added two more (stunning!) snaps to the mix, showing Donatella in a black button-up corset and structured black jacket. 

From Tisci’s latest Insta tags, the legendary Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot (who shoots Versace’s campaigns, too – ovbs) have been officially pronounced as the brains behind the snaps alongside the styling talents of Carine Roitfeld (who’s also featured in a Givenchy ad herself in the past). The former teaser post included hashtags to Alas, Piggot and Roitfeld, but was not formally confirmed. 

Sporting her signature platinum locks and heavy smoky eyes, Donatella shows she’s a natural in front of the camera.

Could this be the start of a designer-to-model transition for the 59-year-old? The rise of the more mature model is a hot topic right now, designers are swapping 20-something-models for older women all over the place. Take Joan Didion (80) modelling for Celine and Joni Mitchell (71) for Yves Saint Laurent, oh and not forgetting the gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana Spring/Summer 2015 campagin which stars three stylish older women. With Donatella’s latest appointment it looks like the mature model movememnt is still on the up.

We’re hoping that this could maybe be the beginning of a design partnership between the fashion BFF’s? Perhaps a Givenchy x Versace collaboration in the pipeline? Well, a girl can dream…
