Curvy Model Comp: Tips On Taking The Best Entry Photo

So we’ve already given you the lowdown on the LOOK and Lorraine Curvy Model Search (you can enter here), where one lucky winner will bag a year-long modelling contract with 12+ UK Model Management, become a regular fixture on LOOK’s High Street Catwalk pages and walk the runway in the LOOK Show spring/summer 2011 during London Fashion Week – and now we’re giving you expert tips on how to take the best picture of yourself to boost your chances!

Sarah Watkinson, Director of 12+ UK Model Management (and one of the competition’s judges), who is looking “for simply a beautiful curvy girl”, says engaging the camera with your eyes and expression is essential, and that you can look warm and friendly without relying on a cheesy grin – just “keep it simple, but make an impact”.

Fellow judge Myra Gonzalez, Director of MillnDoll Creative, fashion show producer and all-round model guru, advises leaving the hair and make-up to the professionals. For the entry shot, they’re looking for true natural beauty, so lose the heavy eye make-up and foundation and keep hair simply tied back. “The single most important thing to remember is we’re not expecting professionals to enter this competition, so don’t feel you need to compete with what you see in magazines. Be yourself and let your personality shine through.”

Other tips from industry insiders and LOOK’s Style Director Zoe Aird include wearing fitted clothes – we want to see your figure! Take a full-length shot against a plain background, and pose in a relaxed, casual way. Finally, make sure the camera isn’t below your chin level: it’s a fast track to a double chin!

Good luck ladies.
