It’s not a subject she normally feels comfortable enough ot talk about, but in a new interview, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has revealed what it felt like to be cheated on.
The 32-year-old is now happily married to Jean Bernard Versini, but back in 2010, the whole world live through her then-husband Ashley Cole’s widely-publicised infidelity.
After four years of marriage, Cheryl was left heartbroken when she found out Ashley had been cheating, and was made to perform at the 2010 BRIT Awards shortly after it hit the headlines.
Speaking of what that was like, the X Factor judge told InStyle: ‘To be honest, I coped in public and crumbled in private.’
Cheryl ended up taking Cole back, and let’s just say plenty of people had an opinion on her decision at the time… But the singer reveals that many of them have since apologised.
‘It’s funny – those who didn’t understand my actions at the time have now had that happen to them and they get it,’ she explained.
‘A friend of mine told me her husband was having an affair and she said, “I understand everything that must have been going through your head. But what I will never understand is how you had to face the world.”’
The former Girls Aloud star previously revealed in her autbiography, Cheryl: My Story, the moment when she first got suspicious – when Ashley made her a cup of tea.
‘He hardly ever made tea and I sensed something was off’, she wrote. ‘He’d been acting weird all evening.’

Not long after that, she says, Ashley was ‘flapping’ while on the phone to his agent, before her rep called her to say a paper was going to print a story about his infidelity.
‘I went to the computer, waiting for the story to appear on the [paper’s] website. “You need to read this”, I shouted to Ashley. But he wouldn’t. He looked appalled with himself.
‘I totally lost it. I was lashing out at Ashley in every way. I hit him in the face – I couldn’t help it. I was shaking him, kicking him, scratching his face, pushing and shoving him like I was a lunatic.’
We’re so glad she’s in a much happier place now, and that JB seems to be treating her like the gem she is. So much love for you, Cheryl…
