We’ve got the Black Friday 2016 low-down so you’re up-to-date with the most anticipated shopping event of the year.
The countdown has officially begun as Black Friday 2016 creeps ever closer. If the date isn’t marked in your calendar or circled and starred in your diary then read on to find out everything you need to know.
What is Black Friday?
It’s literally a day where retailers save us money. Instead of searching through endless racks of sale items, our favourite shops end up throwing fabulous deals and discounts at us in-stores and online. Of course, we’re more than happy to oblige!
But seriously… Black Friday is an annual shopping event, which originated in the US. It was introduced to the UK in the early 2000’s when American companies, Amazon and Asda, began targeting their overseas shoppers. It’s now one of the biggest shopping events of the year, producing the best deals and discounts, whilst unofficially beginning the Christmas shopping period. We’re still crossing our fingers that it’ll become a public holiday.
When is Black Friday 2016?
Black Friday is on 25th November 2016.
If you end-up missing out on Black Friday then remember it’s closely followed by Cyber Monday on 28th November, which means even more deals online – we know what we’ll be doing in our lunch-break.
Why is it called Black Friday?
There are several reasons but it’s most commonly thought that back in the 80’s businesses would use red ink for recording financial losses and black ink for financial profits.
Black Friday is always the day after the US holiday, Thanksgiving, which is also when shops start making the most money and a lot of black ink starts appearing. So Black Friday literally means big profit day for retailers.
What sort of deals are you likely to find?
In recent years, there’s not much that isn’t affected by Black Friday – from gadgets to fashion and accessories to flights.
