Plus, how to wear it for every occasion...
Velvet is back. From chokers to bodysuits, 90s fashion is ruling the world RN, so it’s hardly a surprise that the fabric of the generation is making a comeback, too. It all began on the catwalks.
Erdem and Prada sent sleek figure-hugging velvet cocktail dresses down the runway, while Bottega Veneta and Lacoste gave the fabric a whole new meaning in innovative two pieces and tracksuits. At Vetements and Valentino, meanwhile, velvet was put to good use in outerwear, with Vetements showing a golden velvet coat and Valentino a canary yellow velvet gown. And now? It’s all over the high street.
Shoes, jackets, frocks, tops… You name it, the high street’s done it. Before you jump right in and deck yourself head to toe in it, though, you’ll want to think about how to style it. Okay, what we really mean is, you’ll want to read our thoughts on how to style it. Take note.
Date night: Pair a velvet cocktail dress or ladylike midi skirt with classic court shoes and biker jacket.
Work: Team a velvet blazer with crisp white shirt, cigarette trews and fringed brogues.
Brunch: Throw a casual velvet bomber jacket over a jersey and jeans.
Shopping: Belt a velvet midi dress at the waist and add leather ankle boots.
Et voilà! There’s one last thing to remember- unless you’re donning a matching co-ord, keep the velvet to one piece to avoid going overboard. Happy shopping!
