Don’t Ditch Your Dress

Layer a polo neck knit under your summer frock for a new season spin

(L-R) Valentino and Altuzarra’s AW16 commandment: layer a polo neck knit under your summer frock for a new season spin

One of the saddest things about the changing seasons? Bidding adieu to your floaty frocks and dream dresses that you’ve been wafting about in all summer long. You’ve breezed through meadows, you’ve run in slow-mo down the beach, you’ve probably more realistically sat in a pub garden in it, so having to bundle it up and shove it in a drawer is near-on heart breaking. What luck, then, that both Valentino and Altuzarra decided they couldn’t part with their spaghetti strap dresses, instead choosing to layer them over polo neck knits. Rock with knee-high boots and you’re an autumnal icon (it was one of the biggest AW16 trends).  Also works with that surplus of Bardot frocks you’ve now got on your hands.

Denim Jackets Will Keep You Warm!

Oh, jean jackets. You’ve been so good to us on those sunny days when there’s still a slight breeze and we can’t bring ourselves to leave the house without a cover-up. But, wait! What’s that? Denim js were one of the AW16 trends to take away from fashion week, proving that it’s definitely ok to wear these come rain or shine. Stella McCartney, DSquared2 and Miu Miu all sent a denim parade down the runway, matching them with crisp white cotton separates, tailoring, knitwear and- wait for it- more denim! Look for oversized styles to layer over your cosiest jumper, work with a boxy skirt and hey presto, you’re next season right now.

Make Maxis Autumn-Appropriate

Now we can finally be a #Chloegirl this autumn.

Now we can finally be a #Chloegirl this autumn.

If, like us, you spent most of June/July/August striving to be a #Chloegirl, then this one’s for you. Those floor-sweeping maxis you bought ahead of your hol? Still good to go! Yep, Chloé taught us all a thing or two by layering mannish, oversized jumpers over tiered skirts and frothy frocks. Add ankle boots, wrap a length of ribbon around your neck and guess what? You’re a real life Chloé girl.

Pussybows Are (Still) Go!

We’ve made it our mission to dress like we’re starring in a Gucci campaign for the past few months. Naturally, the pussybow has been at the heart of this endeavour, so it’s handy that it’s still a Big Deal for AW16. For after dark, Gucci’s still got it with velvet party frocks decorated with oversized, silk bows and coloured tights in contrasting hues. By day, channel Temperley London and opt for smart separates in a monochrome palette. You get extra points for a cape.
