AW15’s Biggest Trend Might Already Be In Your Wardrobe…

There’s no doubt that fashion week brings a flurry of excitement for our wardrobes, what will all those new trends and all. But while some of them are always bonkers, too conceptual or downright surprising (we’re looking at you, Birkenstocks), New York Fashion Week is currently championing a major new trend we bet you’ve already invested in.

Yep, you won’t believe it, but the one item currently storming the Big Apple- both on and off the catwalks- is the humble polo neck. And when we say storming, we mean it. We’ve struggled to find a runway without a roll neck knit, and thanks to the sub-zero temperatures in NY, the FROW-goers are wearing them, too. DKNY’s tailoring was enlivened by colour-pop polos layered underneath deep v-neck jumpers, while Derek Lam updated the ’70s silhouette with his- they were paired with kick-flare trousers and smart, belted jackets.

There were also chunkier knitted versions at Victoria Beckham, who teamed these slouchy shapes with figure-hugging midi skirts and calf boots. And while Altuzarra didn’t show roll-necks as such, the knits were high-necked and all about the cosy. As for the celebs, we clocked Olivia Palermo sporting her practical polo on the Diane Von Furstenberg FROW, while super blogger Helena Bordon gave us a lesson in cold-weather dressing with her layering masterclass.

See? Literally everyone is picking a polo neck. Which is music to our ears because, as we’re sure you’re aware, these jumpers are not only super snuggly, they’re also brilliantly versatile and eternally chic. Ours have become our hardest working wardrobe staple, in fact, so of course this is great news for our purses come next winter- we’ll already be the proud owners of the season’s biggest trend.

Naturally, we’ve rounded up the best of the high street, just in case you want to channel the catwalks right now. From Breton styles to slouchy grey jersey, there’s just about everything you need to wear with cigarette pants, tucked into pencil skirts, layered under shift dresses or paired with your favourite pair of jeans. So what are you waiting for? While it’s still pretty chilly out, pull on your polo neck and make sure everyone knows that you’re already showing off AW15’s biggest trend. How’s that for fashion nous?
