Oscars 2011: The Best Dressed
Last night in LA, the awards ceremony we’ve all been waiting for took place, and the red carpet was awash with Hollywood’s finest wearing amazing gowns at the Oscars 2011. Natalie Portman went straight to her favourite label – and creators of the Black Swan’s costumes – Rodarte, for the divine purple dress she wore to pick up the Best Actress gong. Host Anne Hathaway started the night in a scarlet, bustle-back Valentino dress before a whopping seven costume changes throughout the event, including a fringed Oscar de la Renta frock and a Lanvin tux. The lucky lady even had Valentino himself on hand during her red-carpet walk, perhaps to prevent any possible wardrobe malfunctions! Teen style sensation Hailee Steinfeld looked like a princess in a tulle ballgown she co-designed with Marchesa for the occasion, and worked the red carpet like a pro – you’d never know it was her first Oscar appearance. Last but not least, queen of red-carpet high fashion Cate Blanchett combined elegance and edge with a lilac embellished Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci creation. Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson continued the purple trend, Scarlett in lace Dolce & Gabbana and Mila in plunging Elie Saab Couture. Our other favourites? Sandra Bullock in red Vera Wang and Michelle Williams in shimmering Chanel. Of course, there’s about a million more dresses to drool over – and that’s not including the after-parties – so check out our Oscar gallery. Picking your favourite is not going to be easy! The Oscars 2011: Let The Best Actress Battle Begin
The 2011 Oscars are fast approaching and yesterday the nominees attended a luncheon for the awards ceremony in LA. We like to think the Best Actress nominees – Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman and Annette Bening – treated it as a bit of a red-carpet warm-up before the big event. In her best maternity outfit yet, Natalie’s bump looked practically non-existent in a flattering deep-blue dress, paired with popping pink accessories, while Michelle headed straight to Chanel to nail a demure look with a classic tweed skirt and courts. Newcomer Jennifer Lawrence stunned in a romantic Chloé dress and dainty dragonfly-embellished Roger Vivier heels, and we love Nicole’s prim pussy-bow dress and coordinating heels. The red carpet war is on! GG

Maternity Fashion Focus: How To Dress Your Bump
With awards season underway, it seems like practically half of Hollywood is pregnant, so we thought it was about time to give you some handy hints to ensure trouble-free pregnancy dressing (and this is from a fashion person who has actually been pregnant, so knows!).
- Whilst you want to look good, comfort is key – stick to natural fabrics like cotton, silk, cashmere and fine (not itchy) wool. Anything with even a hint of scratch will itch like no one’s business. You don’t want to overheat as your body temperature is naturally slightly raised when pregnant, so opt for light layers you can take off/put on.
- As a general rule, empire line is the pregnant lady’s friend. It separates your bust from bump and is A-line so super-flattering on the hips. If you don’t define your bust from bump, it tends to mould into one (especially if the top is loose fitting) and makes you feel enormous. Obviously an alternative to this is to go for cling or skim with jersey separates or bias cut but it’s a matter of personal taste – in my book pregnancy is about style over trends!
- Remember you’re pregnant – the idea isn’t to make yourself look slim. Wear your bump with pride, but this doesn’t necessarily mean peeking out from a crop top.
- Get some maternity jeans – you can wear your favourite shape as usual, just with an extra stretchy waistband. I loved the cropped skinnies from Topshop.
- Heels. For special occasions (as long as you can sit down) there’s something quite liberating about wearing heels and being pregnant, but for everyday most people just can’t face the back pain/water retention heel wearing brings on. Luckily it’s a great season for flats and there are lots of good ones around. Invest in a great pair of flats, be them boots, pumps or brogues. Or if you do need to wear heels, go for a pair with a small platform – that way the platform offsets the height of the heel but still looks like you’re making an effort.
- It really is a personal thing but many pregnant women prefer a bra which isn’t underwired – you can still get some really gorgeous ones from Elle MacPherson and practical ones from Calvin Klein (TK Maxx became my first port of call for discount bras because your bust is changing so quickly you might not wear the same ones for long!

Get Natalie Portman’s Ballet Eyebrow!
OK, it's not the easiest facial feature to get excited about but we have a new beauty crush and it’s the ballet eyebrow! Call it the Black Swan effect. One of the many things we fell in love with while watching the film was the sleek and almost straight brows sported by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Rather than a regular arch, they ran the length of the eye and mirrored the shape of the top lashline. Get yours looking perfectly groomed with a hard eyebrow pencil and use small, feathery horizontal strokes to give a filled-in finish without making them look heavy. We love MAC Impeccable Brow Marker, £14, which comes in four shades. CB

Natalie Portman Storms The Screen Actors Guild Awards
Natalie Portman is on a roll, scoring a double whammy by picking up her second award for Best Actress at the Screen Actors Guild Award 2011 in LA last night. We’re pleased to see she’s not letting her blooming bump get in the way of her red carpet wardrobe either, oozing Hollywood glamour in a white Azzaro column gown and a classic Roger Vivier clutch. Looks like that Best Actress Oscar is in the bag – and we just can't wait to see her next knockout look. Check out our SAG gallery to see Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton, Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen and more. GG
