Fashion Round Up: A-List Glamour At The White House Dinner

Kate Hudson and Kim Kardashian on the red carpet at the White House Dinner

When an invite to dinner at The White House with the Obama’s lands on your doormat, you know your failsafe LBD isn’t going to cut it in the fashion stakes. Oscar-worthy red carpet glamour was the order of the day at The White House Correspondents Association dinner this weekend, with A-list guests including Kate Hudson, Kim Kardashian, Dakota Fanning and Zooey Deschanel pulling out all the stops.

Kate and Kim went for jewel toned showstopping gowns, Kate sparking in midnight blue Jenny Packham (we wonder if she’s been looking to a certain British Kate for style inspiration - Jenny is one of her go-to designers after all) and gave us major bun envy with her golden locks piled on her head in a whopping top knot. Kim, who attended the soiree with her mum Kris Jenner instead of rumoured beau Kanye West, went down the Grecian goddess route in an embellished green velvet gown. Dakota Fanning and Zooey Deschanel glistened on the red carpet in ornate metallic dresses, Dakota in vintage-esque Prada, which she let do the talking with a make-up free face and loose, simple tresses, and Zooey in petal embellished Oscar De La Renta.  With the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Charlize Theron and Claire Danes also on the guestlist, the Obama’s bash was like the dinner party of dreams! Oh what we wouldn’t give to have been a fly on the wall in that ballroom…GG

Meet Mad Men’s Mini Fashionista, Kiernan Shipka

Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka wearing Miu Miu and Oscar de la Renta dresses

Kiernan Shipka, aka Don and Betty Draper’s daughter Sally in cult TV show Mad Men, is the latest star to join the fashion brat pack. The show's cast are doing the red-carpet promo rounds before the new series hits screens soon, and 12-year-old Kiernan is fast proving her fashion credentials by stepping out in not one, but two designer dresses this week.

First up was a floral-printed Oscar de la Renta frock for the LA premiere. Kiernan then took a tip from fellow tween starlet Hailee Steinfeld and donned a pretty Miu Miu creation the following night. Could we be looking at the successor to Ms Steinfeld’s coveted Miu Miu poster girl crown? Watch this space! GG

Leighton Meester Wows In Oscar De La Renta

Leighton Meester wearing a pink Oscar De La Renta dress filming Gossip Girl

How’s that for a meringue dress? Leighton Meester looked Princess-worthy as she was spotted filming the latest scenes of Gossip Girl in New York! The star wore a pink frou frou dress by Oscar De La Renta during filming on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum. We can’t work out which dress we prefer, this pink number or the ivory Vera Wang dress she wore to her runaway wedding in November? We’d be happy with either! HE

Primark's Catwalk-Inspired Earrings For £2.50? Yes Please!

Oscar de la Renta inspired earrings at Primark

It's a very rare occurance that one of the LOOK fashion team enters a Primark store and leaves empty-handed. We bet you're the same!

So to give you a little heads up on what to look out for right now, hit the high street fashion favourite's jewellery stands for a quick-fix catwalk update.

These earrings may not be an exact match for Oscar De La Renta's jumbo door knocker designs, but they come a close second – and we just love the cool, Art Deco-style finish.

Door knockers are the earring choice of the moment and are set to be huge for SS12 (Kim Kardashian has been wearing them for yonks), so why not pick up your very only slice of the catwalk action, at a fraction of the cost?

These high street babies come in at a mere £2.50. Jewel perfection!

Scroll down to see all the must-haves from Primark's SS12 fashion collection.

The Golden Globe Stars Go Frou-Frou Fabulous!

Piper Parabo and Ariel Winter in frou-frou dresses at the Golden Globes 2012

Nope, it’s not a marshmallow convention – it’s the Golden Globes 2012! Proving more is definitely, well, more, the stars stepped out in dresses that made Princess Diana’s wedding gown look streamlined! Piper Perabo looked stunning in a daringly sheer dress by Oscar de la Renta, while Ariel Winter went berry coloured in a Dolce & Gabbana midi. Meanwhile, Elle Macpherson looked positively bridal in an ivory floor-sweeper by Zac Posen – note the stack of coloured bangles – very spring/summer 2012! We love Andrea Risbourough’s Vivienne Westwood floral appliqué gown too – talk about princess-worthy! We bet she’s glad she had an assistant on hand to help with her dress – in the form of Madonna wearing a Reem Acra tiered dress. Well, that’s what superstar friends are for, right? HE

Yellow platforms from Topshop and Oscar de la Renta SS12 catwalk show

When Oscar de la Renta did a head-to-toe neon yellow look, we knew it was going to be a huge SS12 trend. So imagine our glee when we spotted these mellow yellow platforms on high street fashion heaven Topshop’s website – it was intense. These canary yellow beauties will have any Christmas party dress singing and come spring they’ll give anything from a pair of skinny jeans to a prom dress a little lift. Trust us, having these heels in your wardrobe is like owning a bit of summer sunshine. PS

Emma Watson Rules The Harry Potter Premiere

Emma Watson in Oscar de la Renta & Emma with Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe

Harry Potter mania reached fever pitch in London’s Leicester Square last night as the film’s stars Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe took to the red carpet for the world premiere of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Needless to say, it was all about Emma Watson (although there’s no denying the boys looked very dapper) and boy did she deliver – she looked stunning in a gorgeous grey Oscar de la Renta dress.

It was obviously an emotional night for the actress, who got a little teary alongside Daniel, Rupert and Harry Potter author JK Rowling – we’re guessing she went for waterproof mascara! The red-carpet guest list looked more like a fashion week front row, with appearances from Anna Wintour, Emma’s co-stars Bonnie Wright in vintage Miu Miu, Clemence Poesy in frothy white Nina Ricci and Peaches Geldof in a gorgeous midnight dress.

So while the cast say a sad final farewell to Harry Potter, we’ll be mourning the end of Emma WatsonClemence Poesy and Bonnie Wright’s killer premiere outfits. But one thing's for sure, they definitely said goodbye in style. GG

The Sucker Punch Girls Storm London

The cast of Sucker Punch on the red carpet at the premiere in London

The leading ladies of new film Sucker Punch have been ruling the red carpet lately, and last night they hit the London premiere in an array of amazing dresses. Vanessa Hudgens and Abbie Cornish both went for vintage glamour in ornate Alberta Ferretti floor- sweepers, while Emily Browning looked as cute as a button in a bow-detail Azzaro mini dress. Newcomer Jamie Chung – our latest style crush – and Carla Gugino gave us some Club Tropicana colour in fuchsia Dolce & Gabbana and turquoise Oscar De La Renta. And the movie’s other red-carpet newbie Jena Malone proved her style credentials with a fashion-forward, cutout Juan Carlos Obando dress. Just the Thursday morning fashion fix we needed. Thanks, girls. GG

Oscars 2011: The Best Dressed

Natalie Portman and Hailee Steinfield on the red carpet at the 2011 Oscars

Last night in LA, the awards ceremony we’ve all been waiting for took place, and the red carpet was awash with Hollywood’s finest wearing amazing gowns at the Oscars 2011. Natalie Portman went straight to her favourite label – and creators of the Black Swan’s costumes – Rodarte, for the divine purple dress she wore to pick up the Best Actress gong. Host Anne Hathaway started the night in a scarlet, bustle-back Valentino dress before a whopping seven costume changes throughout the event, including a fringed Oscar de la Renta frock and a Lanvin tux. The lucky lady even had Valentino himself on hand during her red-carpet walk, perhaps to prevent any possible wardrobe malfunctions!  Teen style sensation Hailee Steinfeld looked like a princess in a tulle ballgown she co-designed with Marchesa for the occasion, and worked the red carpet like a pro – you’d never know it was her first Oscar appearance. Last but not least, queen of red-carpet high fashion Cate Blanchett combined elegance and edge with a lilac embellished Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci creation. Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson continued the purple trend, Scarlett in lace Dolce & Gabbana and Mila in plunging Elie Saab Couture. Our other favourites? Sandra Bullock in red Vera Wang and Michelle Williams in shimmering Chanel. Of course, there’s about a million more dresses to drool over – and that’s not including the after-parties – so check out our Oscar gallery. Picking your favourite is not going to be easy! The Screen Actors Guild Awards Fashion Trend: Nude Dresses

Eva Longoria, Lea Michele and Hilary Swank wearing nude dresses at the SAG Award

Red-carpet trend alert! Pale and interesting has just got a bit more, well... interesting! The designer dresses were out in full force at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011 in LA, but rather than the usual jewel tones, celebs took it down a notch with fab floor-sweeping frocks in all shades of nude. Eva Longoria went Grecian with a pleated Georges Hobeika gown, while Hilary Swank looked just peachy in asymmetrical Versace. Our fave was Glee star Lea Michele, who ruled the red carpet in a shimmering Oscar De La Renta dress. She might be an awards ceremony newcomer, but we think she’s got the red-carpet look nailed already – say hello to your fashion competition, A-listers! HE     Scroll down to see all the red carpet celebrity looks from the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011.
