We’ve just had a lovely catch up with The X Factor‘s leading make-up artist, Julia Carta. For us, The X Factor isn’t just about who can hit those high notes – we’ve been tuning in for a bit of beauty inspiration. Charlie from MK1 wowed us with her rainbow eyes on Saturday night, so we asked Julia how she created the look.
“For Charlie’s colour-block eyes, I started by covering her lids and lower lashline with
Rimmel Glam Eyes Mono Eyeshadow in Block Your Green, £4.49
. Next I used
Kryolan Shimmering Vision Colour Palette, £32
. It has a range of bright coloured shades. I patted on the pink and yellow shades then got Charlie to blink lots to merge the colours together.”
Another one of our favourite girls, Jade Ellis, rocked a gorgeous smoky eye and fuchsia pout combo this weekend. This is the ultimate look for a glam night out! Julia explains how to steal Jade’s style:
“Team your smoky eye with a strong brow. We’ve had all the X Factor contestant’s brows threaded at the Shavata Lash Lounge. Next, you want to fill them in. I love Benefit Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit, £22.50 – it’ll give a full brow look that is really on-trend this season. For Jade’s hot pink pout we used Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Boost, £14,and mixed it with a little Rimmel Lipgloss in Pin Up, £4.99, for extra shine.”
And what are Julia’s can’t-live-without beauty products?
Favourite Foundation: ‘I love Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation, £32. It’s great for giving coverage and sorting out dry skin. But if you’re on a budget, Rimmel’s new BB cream, £6.99, hydrates skin and also gives luminosity, it’s like a tinted moisturiser but with an extra kick.”
Favourite Mascara: “I love Lancome mascaras.”
Favourite Liquid Liner: “Rimmel have three great eyeliners – their Glam Eyes Professional, £5.29, is super-precise, great for touch-ups and a barely there liner look. The Exaggerate Eye Liner, £5.29, has a thicker tip that is great for doing a bold flick, or there is the Glam Eyes Gel Eyeliner, £6.49, which is really pigmented so it’s perfect for blending into a smoky eye for extra intensity.”
