But let’s be honest, getting your hair cut short is seriously daunting. Because how will you know if it suits you until it’s too late?!
Well, thanks to a nifty rule created by John Frieda, now we can find out. Step up, the 2.25″ Rule.
‘The Rule was created by John Frieda, and it is a fool-proof guide for hair stylists to use so they can tailor the cut to make the length as flattering as possible to the face shape’, Giles Robinson, International Training Director of Color Wow and Senior Stylist at John Frieda Salons UK, says.
So, how does it work? Well, it looks at the angle of your jaw bone to decide whether or not you’re suited to short locks, or should opt for long, mermaid tresses instead.
Here’s how to do it. Take a pencil and hold it under your chin horizontally. Then, place a ruler vertically under your ear.
Now, measure the intersection between the ruler and pencil. If it’s less than 2.25″, then your face is made for short hair! If not, you’re probably best staying long.
Saying that, we’re kind of all for rocking whatever hairstyle you want. So feel free to scrap the Rule altogether and rock the bob you’ve always wanted, even if you don’t quite measure up.
