The spice is right! Or is it...
The trend for having lips as lush and plump as a bouncy castle is huge (literally), mainly thanks to Lip Kit Queen Kylie Jenner. This beauty vlogger’s attempts to get a full pout using the spicy powers of wasabi might be taking things a bit too far, though.
Vlogger Farah Dhukai swears by the power of the green Japanese spice to give her lips a much-needed boost.
Farah shared a video of her washing the eye-wateringly hot pastes over her lips and since then, the vid has racked up an impressive five million plus views!
In the Instagram post Farah explains her bizarre technique with, “As you may have noticed, I have very wrinkly lips and its cold af in Toronto, so now they’re super dry too. Wrinkly + dry = worst combination ever. So.. this one trick is a great way to get plump lips that look like you’ve had fillers, they’ll be extremely soft, wrinkles will be filled in, they’ll have a natural pink color, and they’ll be so plump [people] will think you’ve had them done.”
In all honesty, Farah’s lips do look plump! But that’s probably because they are crying out with pain after being smothered in mountains of wasabi! We can only bear a tiny dot on even the biggest batch of sushi.
Will it give us lips like Kylie Jenner?
According to clever bod scientists, wasabi doesn’t actually make lips fuller. Instead it increases the flow of blood to the lip area, which helps to speed up the delivery of nutrients and oxygen. Thus creating a smoother pout, softer pout. Not bigger but definitely softer.

We’re wondering how this will help us on a date? The idea of deftly rubbing a big glob of bright green wasabi across our lips whilst gazing at a hot boy doesn’t really feel great. Also, surely it will burn the heck out of his lips when we go in for the kiss?
