From foundations and concealers to highly pigmented eye shadows, blushers and lipsticks that give dark skintones a high definition colour burst, these products will flatter and enhance your skin like nothing else.
Brick red and mauve-tone blushers are best for darker skin, while orange and gold tones will perk up a lighter brown complexion no end. Try NARS’ new Dual-Intensity Blushers, £30, they come in a range of shades, but we suggest Fervor, Panic and Frenzy. Apply the darker shade to the apples of your cheeks, building in layers for a more intense colour and sweep the lighter along the tops of the cheekbones as a highlight.
Yellow, pink, red and orange – they’re all on trend eyeshadow colours but they’re notoriously difficult to pull off – unless you’ve got dark skin, in which case embrace them. Inglot are top of the list for pigmented eye shadows that pack a punch, their Freedom System Eye Shadow’s allow you pick your favourite shades to build your own customized palette. Choose from over 100 colours, £5 each.
Just because you’ve got darker skin doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the contouring trend. Palettes make choosing colours that flatter your face easy and Stila’s Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo in Dark, £31, contains a highlighter that doesn’t look obvious at all.
Finding the right foundation can be hard, as many cosmetic companies have a limited range of darker shades. Which is why Custom Cover Drops, £36, from Cover FX are so damn clever. Pure pigments in over 25 shades, simply drop into any product in your makeup bag to transform it into the perfect colour. Mix into your moisturizer, oil, serum, bb cream, that foundation you wanted that wasn’t quite the right shade – whatever you like! It’s suitable for those with even the most sensitive faces and is teaming with skin saving ingredients.

Stay away from white or pink toned concealers to avoid chalky patches under the eyes or over blemishes. MAC’s Pro Conceal And Correct Palette in Dark, £35, contains 6 shades with warm copper and yellow undertones, which can be blended to create the perfect cover up colour. Use the bright orange shade underneath foundation to counteract dark circles.
Dark and really bright lip shades can wash out paler complexions, but no one pulls of a power pout better than girls with darker skin. The Lip Tar’s from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, £14, are non-sticky vibrant lip lacquers that feel like a gloss coming out of the tube, but look like a lipstick and have the same staying power. All 25 shades are brilliantly bright and have an amazing matte finish, for a perfect pout that will take you from day to night.
