The Haircare Products For Every Kinda Curly Girl

While I like to think of us curly girls as blessed, in many ways our biggest asset (no, we’re not talking bums) is also our biggest chore. Getting our curls to look more chic and less shabby is a constant battle, and anyone with a kink will tell you, when we find a product that works we will not be letting is go. The only way to find out what’s hot is to put these brand new curl definers to the test against two types of curls. Here’s what we thought…

Bumble and Bumble BB Curl Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer Spray, £20.50

Sam: This super spray was the answer to all my wave woes. It detangled and softened my dehydrated strands and brought my natural waves back to life.

Gabrielle: If your curls are looking less coiled and more messy, this ringlet refresher is for you. It gave my third-day hair a bit of hold and shine, but you have to use a lot on thick curls.

Redken Curvaceous Ringlet Perfecting Lotion, £17

Sam: This is definitely for tight curls rather than my relaxed waves, but the formula contains a clever curl memory complex that gave my hair slight hold and a more defined look.

Gabrielle: This brought the shape back to the  unruly mop on top of my head. I combed a few pumps through damp hair and it left me with conditioned curls, plus it smells incredible.

Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute Supreme Crème Serum, £6.99

Sam: The buriti oil in this sweet-smelling formula helped nourish my overworked hair. It’s rich and hydrating without being too greasy or heavy. A nut-sized amount through the ends was all I needed.

Gabrielle: For a budget curl serum, this worked really well at taming my tresses. It stopped flyaways and smoothed my hair, but I didn’t find it helped with the shape of my curls very much.

Boucleme Curl Defining Gel, £15 (We Love!)

Sam: The minty scent of this lightweight gel left my hair smelling fresh and feeling clean. I raked it through my hair in sections and it fought my frizz all day – plus it wasn’t at all crispy.

Gabrielle: This glorious gel left me with the softest, shiniest, smoothest curls ever, and it’s free from everything so you can even use it after having a keratin treatment.

Kérastase Discipline Oléo-Curl, £20.50

Sam: I usually tong my hair before a night out so the heat protection in this was an added bonus. Before blow-drying, I ran it through my towel-dried hair and it left me with silky- smooth waves.

Gabrielle: I like that this contains heat protection. I tend not to heat-style when I’m leaving my hair natural but I tried this with a diffuser and was left with bouncy curls.
